Absolutely not. I have Both Elderberry and Poke weed, as a very young plant the poke leaves are good in a salad, but when they reach maturity, both the leaves AND berries are poisonous. That's why birds don't even eat them. The bunch of berries on Elderberry may be 9 to 12 inches in diameter like a Queen Ann lace only berries instead of tiny blossoms. Elder berry berries are a very tiny berry where a poke weed berry is about 3/8 inch diameter

Thank you so much for the easy-to-follow recipe! It got me motivated to finally try making homemade yogurt. I was wondering if maybe you can help me figure out where I went wrong. My yogurt didn't turn out smooth and creamy; it had little lumps and a chalky feel in the mouth. Here's what I did differently: used 1% milk and added milk powder, and I used smaller jars (8oz). Also, I don't know how warm my oven stayed during the 8 hrs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Danielle!

I say go for it! If it smells and tastes fine, I don't see any reason in not trying again! Good luck!

Best,
Sarah

HI Sarah,

I've made this yogurt 2 or 3 times and now and have loved it! I went to make it today and nothing happened. I still have milk in my jars. Any idea what might have happened? I'm almost positive I followed all the steps correctly (though I was getting quite confident and admit I did it all from memory). Can I try again with the same milk? I'd hate to waste it all. I just tasted it and it tastes fine. I just capped the jars and put them in the fridge. What do you think?

I've done this recipe a couple times but I tweak it, for some reason it has a bitter taste! I always add in a touch of vinegar and lemon at the end and a bit of honey. In theory the honey will be consumed by the fermentation process, it just removes that bitter taste. I only use 1 cup EVOO to the recipe because the vitamix mixes it so well it doesnt need that much oil, and it muttles the strong EVOO smell/taste.

It lasts 8 wks in the refridgerator, which is 8 times longer than without the whey!! hurray for whey!!
