Daybook for Today, July 12, 2010 A Picture Thought to Share . . .I have to admit, I’m generally not a fan of sleeveless shirts on men of any age (these are actually pyjamas) but seriously, how cute is Luke?  Love those Popeye rolls . . . and the fact that he’s snuggling with the dog.  In the dog bed. Outside my Window… Mosquitos are out in full force.  As much as I hate Deet, it’s the only thing allowing me a few moments outside in the garden, the bugs are ferocious this year!  sigh . . . anyone have any natural bug repellants that work? I am thinking… about some changes that might be in order soon . . . trusting in God and excited, but nervous, at the [... To read more, click here ...]

We love Greek and Mediterranean food in our home. A common summertime meal? Grilled kebabs, beef, game or chicken, , seasoned with olive oil, lemon, garlic, oregano and more, served with homemade hummus (my favorite recipe is Ina’s), Tzatziki sauce (recipe coming up soon) with homemade yogurt, dill from our garden and cucumber, served along with or inside pita.

I’ve never really made pita before. Sure, I made the hummus, sliced the (truly grassfed, all natural) meat from my freezer, grew the oregano for the marinade, made the yogurt and grew the dill for the sauce, but the pita was still from the store.
It just wasn’t something I made.

Sourdough bread? Sure. Artisinal french breads? Yes. But simple pita bread? Nope. Just bought the package at the store.

But the last time I bought the multigrain variety, I was highly disappointed. It was thick, almost like a fry bread, kind of dry, and didn’t have a pocket. What’s the point of pita without a pocket? Plus it cost a pretty penny and I didn’t like half of the ingredients. I was not impressed. So I decided to try my hand at making my own.

And now, I doubt I’d ever buy it again. It was so simple, made up quickly before our meal, and was perfect. I love it. And I can’t wait for you to try it too . . .

One of the great things about being affiliated with Real Food Media as a food blogger is being able to share with my readers resources I’d never have the time, or the expertise, to produce myself. Everything from e-courses to books to seminars and giveaways, on topics as varying as fertility and homeschooling to pickling and budgeting, being a part of this network allows me to share with you, my readers, the best of the web, at least in terms of food, health and wellness! I am excited to share with you one of those today . . . an online e-course on How to Cook Real Food! Earlier this year, Jenny of Nourished Kitchen hosted a 28-day Real Food Challenge to her readers, to great acclaim, and was ultimately [... To read more, click here ...]

The contract has been signed. The inspection completed and the list of requests approved. I can’t believe that we might one day (soon!) live in this house. Cook in this kitchen. . . See the double ovens?  One will have a dedicated spot for my baking stone . . . Bathe my babies in this bathtub. . . And mama too . . . I love how deep it is! Dine al fresco . . . I’m going to need some chairs . . . And garden to my heart’s content. Look!  They even have a sandbox all ready for my boys! I’m still holding my breath, waiting for something terrible to happen to squash our dream of owning our first home.  Is that weird?  Is this a normal feeling [... To read more, click here ...]

I had such a great week sharing with you my new favorite slow cooker recipes! My goal was to both share a few recipes I’ve never shared before, as well as open up the spectrum of the slow cooker a bit by offering a recipe for a different type of food each day, breakfast, a condiment, dinner, dessert and even a beverage! I’m hoping you start thinking of your slow cooker in a different light! Granted, I also frequently make chicken stock in my slow cooker (same recipe, different means of cooking) as well as all of my chili and soup recipes, and even my green chile roasted, shredded pork roast in my slow cooker, not to mention keeping that baked spinach and artichoke dip warm come SuperBowl Sunday, but [...
