Look what I just found at my local Target!  A Condensed Cream of Mushroom soup that is:

  • MSG Free
  • Soy Free
  • Gluten Free, and,
  • In a BPA-free container!

I’m super excited.  I don’t make a lot of casseroles, but there are a few family recipes that I’d love to make again with some decent cream of mushroom soup.  I haven’t made them in ages because we’ve been avoiding MSG and, though I know that I could make homemade cream of mushroom soup, I just haven’t.  So . . . as it gets to be cooler weather and you want to reach for those old, familiar recipes, reach for a box of this soup instead for healthier eating!  Just wanted to pass on this little tidbit . . . I found mine at Target or you could buy it from amazon. Enjoy!

Yes, but once you make your own cream of mushroom soup (and just throw it in the freezer), it’s hard to go back to the premade stuff at all. :>) Last time I did a batch, I was at my mom’s and she licked the spoons, pan, and spatula, and gave me sad eyes when I said it was all going in the freezer and she couldn’t just sit down and have a couple of bowls. :>) It really makes an awesome difference! I haven’t tried making it GF, yet, though. I’m pretty sure it’ll work fine to thicken with cornstarch or arrowroot.

    Thanks for the potato curing explanation! I knew that, I’d just forgotten since it’s been a while since we’ve grown potatoes!
